Carnegie Gives Money to Build Libraries

Andrew Carnegie, one of the world's most famous industrialists, believed in giving back to the country that helped him become a wealthy man--the United States. He did it in a big way! On March 12, 1901, the Scottish immigrant offered the city of New York $5.2 million for the construction of 65 branch libraries. Carnegie went on to use his fortune to build more libraries, schools and public foundations. Who was this generous man?
