Even though many people told Elizabeth Blackwell she was a fool for wanting to become a doctor, she tried anyway. Blackwell applied to several schools, but only one would take her: Geneva Medical College (later named Hobart College) in New York. She graduated at the head of her class on October 19, 1849.
